Owl Creek Bridge

Sound Design by Carl Boland.

Owl Creek Bridge won the 2007 BAFTA Cymru award for ‘Best Short Film’. This dark horror story deals with a racial attack on a young Asian boy. The film’s sound design supports the atmospheric tension and dynamism of the chase sequences. Sound-object morphologies that sync with camera motions were created from transformed vocalizations. This approach was inspired by techniques described in Trevor Wishart’s On Sonic Art (Wishart, T. 1996, Routledge).

Director: John Giwa-Amu. Produced by ITV Wales and It’s My Shout.

The Bone Orchard

Sound Design by Carl Boland

Another short horror film by the same production team. Sound Design focused on supporting the terrifying presence of the ghost.

Director: Matt Savage. Produced by ITV Wales and It’s My Shout.

The Hunt for A New Bob Crutch

Music Composition and Production by Carl Boland

This enjoyable comedy short tells the improbable story of two schoolboys who decide to find a replacement for their expelled bully ‘Bob Crutch’. Always feeling the need ‘to be damaged’, the boys try in vain to select a candidate but end up taking on the role themselves.

The music supports the comedy by deploying a diverse range of musical genres; including classical, pop-rock, rockabilly, electronica, and even a brief homage to Ennio Morricone’s spaghetti western soundtracks!

Director: Richard Tunley. Produced by ITV Wales and It’s My Shout.
